Growth
As CFC grew, it began to conduct its own fundraising events including an annual golf tournament, softball game,
and hockey game. It also began to expand its services. CFC now started to field requests and coordinate visits by celebrities to seriously ill children; both in hospital and at home, and to provide hospitals with bulk amounts of autographed trading cards that they could give to patients throughout the year. And as CFC grew even more, it also began to make small cash donations to other charitable organizations and individuals in need.
In April of 2002, because of CFC's continued growth and its desire to become an independent organization,
CFC incorporated itself as a Massachusetts nonprofit corporation and registered itself with the Office of the
Massachusetts Attorney General's Public Charity Division CFC's Attorney General's Account Number is 041306.
And in May of 2002, CFC began to operate as an independent charity. During the remainder of the year, CFC transitioned
itself away from the National Heritage Foundation, and in December of 2002, it received an advance ruling from the Internal
Revenue Service qualifying CFC as a 501 (c) (3) organization. CFC's Tax Identification Number is 02-0586765. Please note, however,
that registration with either of these agencies does not mean that either of them has endorsed CFC; neither agency ever endorses a public charity.
